Colonel K.S. Appiah has officially assumed office as the new Director of Operations at the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS).
He takes over from Colonel Dominic Buah following a formal handover ceremony held on Thursday, June 11, 2026.
The change in leadership forms part of what government officials describe as routine strategic rotations aimed at improving operational effectiveness and strengthening institutional performance.
During the ceremony, Colonel Buah formally handed over responsibility for the Directorate of Operations to Colonel Appiah.
The transition marks a new chapter in the leadership of the unit as it continues its mandate to combat illegal mining activities across the country.
Authorities expect the appointment to enhance coordination and improve operational efficiency within NAIMOS.
The Secretariat plays a key role in Ghana’s fight against illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, which continues to pose significant environmental and economic challenges.
Government officials believe the leadership change will support ongoing efforts to strengthen enforcement operations and improve collaboration among agencies involved in tackling illegal mining.
The appointment comes at a time when authorities are intensifying efforts to curb illegal mining and protect the country’s forests, rivers and other natural resources.
With Colonel Appiah now at the helm of operations, NAIMOS is expected to continue implementing strategies aimed at improving the effectiveness of anti-galamsey interventions nationwide.
The Secretariat has not yet outlined any new policy directions under the incoming Director of Operations, but the leadership transition is expected to bolster ongoing efforts to address illegal mining activities across Ghana.
