Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor says lawyers for detained Member of Parliament Ohene Kwame Frimpong have filed a bail application in a Dutch court.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, Mr. Dafeamekpor said the application was filed on Tuesday.

He added that the legal team is seeking a hearing before the end of the week.

“So, the lawyers have successfully filed for his bail today. And so we are praying that they will be given a hearing sometime within the week,” he said.

Mr. Dafeamekpor said Parliament and the government have continued to support the detained MP since his arrest in Amsterdam.

According to him, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ghana’s ambassador to The Hague are helping with the case.

“The government has also supported. The Foreign Minister has been able to coordinate the work of our ambassador to The Hague to support and offer him every assistance,” he stated.

Mr. Frimpong remains in custody in Amsterdam while he awaits proceedings before a Dutch court.

Mr. Dafeamekpor said Parliament’s leadership has stayed in touch with the MP’s family and legal representatives.

He added that Parliament continues to monitor developments in the case closely.

The Majority Chief Whip appealed to Ghanaians to remain calm and support the MP and his family during the process.

“We think that he will prevail with the bail application,” he said.

Mr. Dafeamekpor also argued that investigations could continue while the MP remains on temporary release.

“He should have his interim freedom to be able to do his work. He will not evaporate and go anywhere,” he added.
