Azorka defends Asiedu Nketia amid flagbearer speculation

The National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Chief Sofo Azorka, has dismissed claims that the party’s ongoing ‘Thank You Tour’ is being used as a platform to position the National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, for a future flagbearer role.

Addressing party supporters in Wa, Chief Azorka stressed that the tour is not a vehicle for personal ambition but rather a fulfilment of the party’s post-election engagement strategy.

He explained that the initiative is aimed at expressing gratitude to the NDC’s grassroots base for their support in the 2024 general elections, while also reaffirming the party’s commitment to delivering on its campaign promises.

According to him, the National Chairman’s engagements across the country have focused on accountability and reassurance, rather than self-promotion.

In recent weeks, Asiedu Nketia has embarked on a series of visits to constituencies nationwide under the ‘Thank You Tour’ banner, a move that has drawn scrutiny from political observers. Some analysts have interpreted the exercise as an attempt to consolidate support for a potential leadership bid—an assertion Chief Azorka has firmly rejected.

He further expressed confidence in the leadership of John Dramani Mahama, pointing to what he described as prudent economic management and measured governance. He maintained that the NDC remains strategically positioned to retain political power over the long term.

Chief Azorka also addressed perceptions surrounding his personal conduct, emphasising that he is committed to humility and justice, and rejecting characterisations that portray him as violent.
