The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has extended goodwill to candidates sitting for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), urging them to remain calm and confident.

In a message shared on his Facebook page, he encouraged students to approach each paper with a clear mind and trust in their preparation.

“To all candidates writing the BECE, approach each paper with a calm mind and confidence in what you have learned. Give your best. That is what matters most,” he wrote.

Drawing on his background as a former teacher, Mr Asiedu Nketia said he understands the discipline and preparation required for such examinations, adding that candidates should stay focused throughout the process.

The 2026 BECE began on May 4 and is expected to end on May 11, with 620,141 candidates sitting for the exams nationwide.

The figure includes 304,349 boys and 315,792 girls from 22,395 schools, with each candidate writing an average of 11 subjects.
