Agbodza orders termination of Black Oak Contract

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has directed the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Highways Authority, Mallam Issah Ishak, to initiate the termination of Black Oak’s contract for the rehabilitation of the Bogoso–Prestea Road.

According to the minister, the contractor has failed to make meaningful progress on the project despite being awarded the contract in 2025.

Black Oak reportedly moved to site in March 2026 and only carried out roadside clearing works before abandoning the project. The company later claimed it did not have access to the road design needed to continue the work.

The Regional Highways Engineer disclosed that less than two percent of the project has been completed since work commenced.

Speaking during an inspection tour of the government’s Big Push road projects in the Western Region, Mr Agbodza stressed that although the Bogoso–Prestea Road is not officially part of the Big Push initiative, it remains a key priority for the government.

He said the government would not tolerate unnecessary delays on such an important road project and therefore instructed the Ghana Highways Authority to begin processes to end the contractor’s engagement.
