Ghana Statistical Service has ranked Ablekuma North Municipal as the best-performing district in Ghana under the latest Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI).

The report covers the period from 2021 to 2025 and measures poverty beyond income levels.

According to the report, Ablekuma North recorded an average poverty headcount of 8.5 percent over the five-year period.

The district also remained among the top 10 best-performing districts every year.

Ablekuma West Municipal followed with an average poverty incidence of 8.6 percent, while Korle Klottey Municipal recorded 8.8 percent.

Several districts in the Greater Accra Region ranked among the country’s best-performing areas.

These include La Dade-Kotopon Municipal, Tema West Municipal, Ayawaso Central Municipal, Ayawaso West Municipal, Krowor Municipal, and Ledzokuku Municipal.

Asokwa Municipal also featured strongly in the rankings.

The report said Ayawaso North Municipal recorded the lowest multidimensional poverty rate in 2025 at 5.5 percent.

Officials say the findings highlight major differences in poverty levels between urban and rural districts.

While many urban municipalities recorded low poverty rates, several districts in northern Ghana continued to face higher levels of deprivation.

The Ghana Statistical Service said better access to education, healthcare, sanitation, electricity, and jobs helped improve living conditions in the top-performing districts.

Officials added that the report will guide policy decisions, investment planning, and social intervention programmes aimed at reducing poverty nationwide.
