The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced a fast-track process to replace passports lost or damaged during the recent floods that affected parts of Ghana.
Under the new arrangement, affected persons will receive replacement passports within one week as part of government efforts to support flood victims.
In a statement issued on Friday, July 3, the Ministry expressed sympathy to families affected by the floods and reaffirmed its commitment to assisting victims.
“The Ministry recognises that due to the floods many Ghanaians may have either lost their passports or had them damaged,” the statement said.
It added that an expedited replacement process has been introduced for all passports lost or damaged as a result of the floods.
The Ministry said affected persons should contact its dedicated hotline, 055 936 8563, between Friday, July 3, and Friday, July 17, 2026.
Applicants will be required to provide their full name, date of birth, gender as recorded on the lost passport, and a valid phone number.
According to the Ministry, replacement passports will be processed within one week after applicants make contact.
The initiative forms part of broader government measures to assist victims following the devastating floods that affected Accra and other parts of the country.
The intervention follows directives from President John Dramani Mahama to restore essential public services and ease the burden on affected households.
The flooding, which began on June 28 and intensified on June 29, caused widespread damage to homes, businesses and personal belongings, including important documents.
The disaster also claimed several lives and displaced many residents across affected communities.
Government has already released GH¢350 million from the Contingency Fund to support emergency relief and flood mitigation efforts.
The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, together with regional authorities, is also coordinating assistance for displaced residents and other vulnerable groups.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry said the expedited passport replacement exercise is intended to reduce administrative challenges for flood victims as they recover from the disaster.
