The Executive Director of the Africa Sustainable Energy Centre (Africa Sustainable Energy Centre), Ing. Justice Ohene-Akoto, has been appointed as a member of the Standing Committee of the World Energy Council (World Energy Council).

The appointment is described as a major milestone for Ghana and Africa, reflecting the continent’s growing influence in global energy leadership.

It recognises Ing. Ohene-Akoto’s contributions to sustainable energy development, innovation, and policy advocacy across Africa.

He is a multiple award-winning engineer, inventor, and sustainability advocate who has led several initiatives aimed at expanding energy access, promoting industrial growth, and supporting climate-resilient development in Ghana and other African countries.

Under his leadership, the Africa Sustainable Energy Centre has become a leading platform for energy policy dialogue. It brings together policymakers, industry leaders, and development partners to address Africa’s energy challenges.

The Centre was named Energy Think Tank of the Year at the 2025 Ghana Energy Awards.

Ing. Ohene-Akoto has consistently called for increased investment in Africa’s energy sector. He has stressed the need for financing, innovation, and strategic partnerships to support sustainable development and the energy transition.

He has also highlighted the impact of unreliable power supply on economic growth in countries such as Ghana, while promoting solutions aligned with global climate goals and Africa’s development priorities.

In his new role, he is expected to contribute to global discussions on energy sustainability, energy security, and equitable access to power.

Stakeholders in Ghana’s engineering and energy sectors have described the appointment as a significant achievement for the country and evidence of Africa’s growing role in global energy governance.

Colleagues and industry players have praised his leadership, technical expertise, and commitment to mentoring young professionals in the energy sector.

Reacting to the appointment, Ing. Ohene-Akoto expressed appreciation for the recognition and reaffirmed his commitment to representing Ghana and Africa on the global stage.

He emphasised the importance of collaboration, innovation, and locally relevant solutions in achieving a just and inclusive global energy transition.

The appointment is widely seen as further recognition of African expertise and leadership in shaping global energy policy.
