Black Starlets coach Prosper Narteh Ogum says his team is ready to compete strongly at the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
Ghana is returning to the tournament for the first time since 2017, when the team finished second in Gabon.
The Black Starlets have been drawn in a difficult Group D with hosts Algeria, defending champions Senegal, and South Africa.
Ghana will open its campaign against Algeria later today at the Mohammed VI Football Academy. The match kicks off at 19:00 GMT.
Speaking ahead of the game, Ogum said his players are united and determined to perform well. “This team has a good balance of talent, discipline, teamwork and determination. The players understand each other very well, and they are prepared to fight for one another on the pitch,” he told CAFOnline.
The former Asante Kotoko coach also praised the team’s progress during preparations for the tournament. “Technically, we have quality, tactically we are improving steadily, and mentally the players are showing maturity. These qualities give us confidence that we can compete strongly against any team in the tournament,” he added.
After the Algeria match, Ghana will face Senegal and South Africa in the remaining group games.
