    Asante Akyem North MP detained in Netherlands

    Parliament of Ghana has confirmed the detention of the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Kwame Ohene Frimpong, in the Netherlands.

    According to a statement issued by Parliament and signed by the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, the legislator was detained at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam.

    The statement noted that the Speaker of Parliament and the leadership of the House are currently engaging Ghana’s diplomatic mission in The Hague to gather detailed information regarding the incident.

    “It has come to the attention of Parliament that the Hon Member for Asante Akyem North Constituency, Mr. Kwame Ohene Frimpong has been detained at the Schipol Airport, Amsterdam in the Netherlands,” the statement said.

    Parliament added that the public would be updated appropriately as more details emerge on the matter.

    The circumstances surrounding the detention have not yet been disclosed.
