Injury blow for Kotoko as Amoah ruled out for rest of season

Asante Kotoko SC defender Lord Amoah has successfully undergone surgery following an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, marking the beginning of his recovery process.

The 22-year-old has been sidelined since Kotoko’s victory over Young Apostles FC in March, where he was forced off in the 19th minute after a heavy challenge. Subsequent medical assessments confirmed both an ACL tear and a medial meniscus injury.

Amoah is expected to miss the remainder of the season, dealing a significant blow to the Kumasi-based club. Prior to the injury, the right-back had been a key performer, making 23 appearances and contributing an impressive nine goals.

Meanwhile, Kotoko’s form in the Ghana Premier League has declined in recent weeks. The downturn has seen the Porcupine Warriors slip to sixth place on the table, trailing league leaders Medeama SC by 10 points.

The team’s struggles have also triggered changes on the technical bench, with interim head coach Prince Owusu stepping down. Youth team trainer Hamza Obeng has since been placed in charge for the remainder of the campaign.

Kotoko will look to steady their season when they face Dreams FC in their next league encounter.
