John Dramani Mahama has nominated five individuals to serve on Ghana’s Fiscal Council in accordance with the Public Financial Management (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1136).

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, and signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson.

The proposed Council is intended to promote fiscal discipline, strengthen oversight, and support informed decision-making in the management of public finances.

Among the nominees is Dr. Emmanuel Oteng Kumah, who has been designated as Chairperson. Other members include Prof. Patrick Opoku Asuming representing academia, and Leslie Dwight Mensah representing a research think tank.

The remaining nominees are J. Kweku Bedu-Addo, a former public policy expert at the Ministry of Finance, and Dr. Henry Akpenamawu Kofi Wampah, a former public policy expert from the Bank of Ghana.

Once constituted, the Fiscal Council is expected to play a key role in promoting fiscal responsibility, offering guidance on economic policy, and enhancing transparency in public financial management. The move reflects the government’s broader commitment to strengthening financial governance and ensuring sound economic management.
