Patrice Motsepe has arrived in Senegal for discussions with government and football officials aimed at easing tensions following the stripping of the country’s AFCON 2025 title.

During the working visit, Motsepe is scheduled to meet Senegalese Head of State, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, as well as the president of the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football, Abdoulaye Fall. The discussions aim to address concerns of bias and mend the strained relationship between Senegal and the continent’s football governing body.

The controversy stems from a March 17 decision by CAF, which awarded a 3-0 victory to Morocco following an appeal regarding the AFCON 2025 final. Senegal initially claimed a 1-0 victory over Morocco’s Atlas Lions, but the CAF Appeal Jury overturned the ruling of the CAF Disciplinary Jury.

CAF explained that the reversal was based on procedural grounds, noting that Morocco’s right to be heard was not fully respected during the initial proceedings. In response, Senegal has filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sports, contesting the ruling.

Motsepe’s visit is expected to focus on dialogue and reconciliation, as CAF seeks to stabilize relations and maintain the integrity of African football.
