Leeds United will meet Chelsea at Wembley after reaching the FA Cup semi-finals for the first time in 39 years.
Daniel Farke’s side advanced by beating Premier League relegation rivals West Ham 4-2 on penalties following an electrifying 2-2 draw on Sunday.
In the other semi-final, last year’s runners-up Manchester City will take on Southampton, who have not won the FA Cup since 1976. The Saints earned their place by stunning Premier League leaders Arsenal on Saturday, setting up a clash with the seven-time winners.
Leeds’ previous FA Cup semi-final appearance came in 1987, when they lost 3-2 to eventual champions Coventry City at Hillsborough. Their only FA Cup triumph came in 1972.
The upcoming meeting with eight-time winners Chelsea also evokes memories of the 1970 final between the two clubs, when Chelsea won after a replay at Old Trafford—the first FA Cup final to require a replay since 1912.
