The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has disclosed that although about 105,000 applicants have successfully advanced to the medical examination stage in the ongoing recruitment into Ghana’s security services, only 5,000 positions are available.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, March 11, after parliamentary proceedings, the minister explained that the high number of qualified candidates resulted from the online aptitude tests conducted during the recruitment process.

He noted that even if many applicants pass the medical examinations, the limited number of vacancies means that only a small portion will eventually be recruited into the various security agencies this year.

“We still have 105,000 who have qualified for medicals. In reality, the total number we can take after medicals is 5,000, so we still face a huge challenge,” he said.

Mr. Mohammed-Mubarak encouraged applicants who may not be selected to remain hopeful and patient, assuring them that the government plans to consider them in the next phase of recruitment.

He added that more opportunities are expected in 2026 after Ghana completes its programme with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

According to the minister, the President has directed that the data of all applicants who pass their medical examinations be preserved. This will allow the government to draw from the same pool of candidates during the next recruitment exercise.

He explained that the current exercise is for the 2025 intake, while the 2026 recruitment expected after the IMF programme ends will provide additional opportunities for qualified applicants.

Mr. Mohammed-Mubarak emphasized that the government remains committed to creating more employment opportunities for young people and plans to recruit more qualified candidates into the security services when the country’s financial situation improves.
