Aberdeen Granted Permission to Negotiate with Stephen Robinson

Aberdeen have confirmed they have been granted permission to enter formal talks with 51-year-old Northern Irishman Stephen Robinson regarding their managerial vacancy.

Peter Leven has served as caretaker since Jimmy Thelin’s dismissal in January. Still, the team’s struggles continued with a 3-0 Scottish Cup quarter-final defeat to Dunfermline Athletic, leaving them with just one win in eight matches.

Stephen Robinson, meanwhile, guided St Mirren to their second cup semi-final of the season after defeating Partick Thistle, having already secured the League Cup against Celtic in November. He previously led the Buddies to three consecutive top-six finishes.

They currently sit 10th, five points behind Aberdeen and narrowly above the relegation play-off spot. Aberdeen’s approach comes shortly after chairman Dave Cormack revealed talks with former Mainz, Hertha Berlin, and Dinamo Moscow coach Sandro Schwarz, who recently left New York Red Bulls. Schwarz is one of several candidates under consideration.

Eirik Horneland, formerly of Brann and Rosenborg, also emerged as a contender following his departure from Saint-Étienne, though he has stated he will not take another role until the end of the season.
