The Deputy Minister for Education, Clement Apaak, has strongly condemned the recent violent incidents involving students, calling them “disturbing acts” shown in viral social media videos. The footage, widely shared over the weekend, depicts students from two senior high schools in the Central Region attacking one another in separate episodes. The videos have sparked public outrage and reignited concerns about discipline and safety in secondary schools.

These incidents occur amid ongoing national discussions about student misconduct, following previous reports of unrest, fights, and assaults in schools across the country. Education officials have recently emphasized the need for stricter enforcement of school rules and a renewed focus on guidance and counselling.

Deputy Minister Apaak stated that initial information points to students from two Central Region schools being involved. “The Director-General of GES has been instructed to investigate the matter,” he said. The Director-General is set to meet with the Central Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service, relevant district directors, and the heads of the affected schools. This meeting will take place at 10 a.m. on Monday, February 23, 2026, at the GES headquarters in Accra.

Dr. Apaak emphasized that the ministry is taking the matter very seriously. “Even as we await the report from the Director-General of GES, I want to stress that as Deputy Minister for Education, I take these acts of violence extremely seriously,” he said. He warned that those responsible would face strict disciplinary measures. “The culprits can expect the most severe sanctions,” he added.

The Ghana Police Service has also confirmed that it is investigating the incidents, and the ministry has pledged to provide updates after the investigation concludes.
