Awal Mohammed Backs Down, Apologises for ‘Junkies’ Comment About Shatta Wale Fans

Awal Mohammed has issued a public apology following backlash over comments in which he described fans of dancehall artist Shatta Wale as “junkies.”

The remark, which surfaced during a recent public discussion and later circulated widely on social media, sparked outrage among members of the Shatta Movement, many of whom condemned the statement as disrespectful and unnecessary. The backlash prompted Awal Mohammed to clarify his position and offer an apology.

In his response, Awal Mohammed acknowledged that his choice of words was inappropriate and offensive. He stressed that he did not intend to insult Shatta Wale’s fan base and expressed regret for the comment, noting that it was made in the heat of the moment.

“I take full responsibility for my words and sincerely apologise to Shatta Wale, his fans, and anyone who felt disrespected,” he stated, calling for calm and unity within the entertainment space.

Shatta Wale’s supporters had earlier taken to social media to demand an apology, arguing that the comment unfairly stereotyped a large and diverse fan base. Some also urged public figures to be more mindful of their language, given their influence.

As of the time of publication, Shatta Wale himself has not publicly responded to the apology. However, industry observers say the gesture could help de-escalate tensions and restore civility within Ghana’s music community.

The incident has once again highlighted the role of public discourse and accountability in the entertainment industry, with many calling for respectful engagement despite differences in opinion.
