The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has commenced training for 40 officers from immigration control points across the country ahead of the nationwide launch of Ghana’s new electronic visa (e-visa) system on May 25, 2026.
The two-day training programme in Accra forms part of preparations to operationalise the fully digital visa platform, which will allow foreign nationals seeking entry into Ghana to complete their visa application processes online.
The initiative is expected to improve passenger processing, increase accessibility, and strengthen border security and migration management.
Addressing participants at the opening session, Faisal Disu urged officers to embrace the system with professionalism, discipline, and a strong sense of responsibility.
He described the e-visa project as a major step in the transformation of the Immigration Service, noting that the officers undergoing training would play a crucial role in ensuring the efficiency, reliability, and credibility of the platform once it becomes operational across the country.
According to him, the digital system will provide valuable traveller data that can support national security operations, intelligence gathering, and economic planning.
He emphasized that accuracy, confidentiality, and proper data management would be essential to the successful implementation of the initiative.

Mr. Disu further explained that the online visa system would serve as the first point of interaction between Ghana and many foreign visitors, making the conduct and competence of immigration officers critical in shaping the country’s image among investors, tourists, and business travellers.
Participants in the programme are expected to undergo practical training in areas including system workflow management, monitoring procedures, document verification, and online payment processes.
The opening ceremony was attended by senior officials of the Ghana Immigration Service, including Philip Peter Andoh and Francis Gavor.
