According to the statement, the victims arrived safely in Ghana on May 10 and are currently assisting with ongoing investigations into the trafficking operation.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to inform the general public that twenty-eight (28) Ghanaian nationals, predominantly youth, who were victims of a sophisticated human trafficking network have been rescued and repatriated to Ghana from Côte d’Ivoire,” the release stated.
The Government of Ghana also commended the Ivorian authorities for their collaboration and intelligence-sharing, which contributed to the success of the operation.
The Ministry warned Ghanaians to remain vigilant against human trafficking schemes, particularly those linked to unlicensed recruitment agencies promising travel and employment opportunities abroad.
It further urged the public to verify the legitimacy of job and travel offers with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment Relations, as well as Ghana’s diplomatic missions abroad before engaging with such opportunities.
Meanwhile, the Mahama Administration has assured the public that efforts are underway to dismantle the criminal networks behind the trafficking operation and bring the perpetrators to justice.
