The National Film Authority (NFA) has officially launched its Film Development Fund, a major initiative aimed at addressing financing challenges and promoting long-term growth within Ghana’s film industry.

The launch event, held on Wednesday, May 20, at Silverbird Cinema, also featured the inauguration of the Film Development Fund Management Committee and the Film Classification Committee, both of which are expected to strengthen oversight and regulation within the sector.

Addressing attendees during the ceremony, NFA Chief Executive Officer Kafui Danku described the initiative as a significant milestone for Ghana’s creative industry.

She noted that the establishment of the Film Development Fund represents one of the most important institutional efforts aimed at addressing long-standing financing and investment challenges facing the industry.

According to her, the fund is intended to support filmmakers, producers, distributors, exhibitors, content creators, and other industry stakeholders by creating opportunities for stronger and more sustainable businesses.

She explained that the initiative seeks to encourage job creation, broaden audience reach, and improve the global visibility of Ghanaian films and storytelling.

Kafui Danku further stressed that the continued development of Ghana’s film sector would depend on collective efforts to create a supportive environment through effective policies, innovation, audience engagement, and strategic partnerships.

She also emphasized that the inauguration of the Film Development Fund Management Committee and the Film Classification Committee was an important component of the event because both bodies are expected to promote accountability, transparency, and stronger governance structures within the industry.

According to the NFA, the Film Development Fund Management Committee will oversee the strategic administration and management of the Fund, while the Film Classification Committee will be responsible for regulating content standards and encouraging responsible film production practices.
