They called me a witch for having 12 toes, Enam speaks out

Ghanaian Afro singer and songwriter known in the industry as Enam Music, has opened up about a deeply personal childhood experience being born with 12 toes. Enam disclosed that in her early years, people around her labelled her a witch simply because she had six toes on each foot.

Speaking to broadcaster in an interview shared on X on January 6, 2026, the artiste revealed that growing up, she was made to believe that there was something “abnormal” about her birth condition but as I grew older and began to understand myself, I realized I was born for nature, and nature is mine, because I was born with 12 toes.

Growing up with a rare physical condition, having 12 toes instead of the usual ten, Enam Music was singled out early in life. What should have been a simple difference became a source of stigma. Other children didn’t understand it, and instead of curiosity or kindness, Enam was met with cruelty.

In many communities, physical differences are often misunderstood and wrapped in superstition. For Enam, the extra toes were not just a medical condition; they became a reason for isolation. Whispers followed, laughter echoed, and the name calling cut deep. Being called a “witch” carried a weight far heavier than ordinary bullying it suggested something unnatural, something to be feared.

As a child, Enam struggled with self-acceptance. There were moments of shame and a desire to hide, moments of wondering why being different had to hurt so much. Yet, in the silence of those difficult years, something unexpected began to grow resilience. According to her, the stigma and constant mockery eventually led her father to approve corrective surgery to remove the extra digits.

I have thought about going there to get them, not just to see them. I don’t know what the legal process will be, but they are mine, so I have to get them. Tech Hospital, I’m coming for my toes.
