Team Ghana concluded its campaign at the African Seniors Athletics Championships with a total of five medals after six days of competition at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra.

The 24th edition of the continental event brought together athletes from 40 countries competing for honours and records across various disciplines.

Although Ghana did not secure a gold medal, the host nation finished the competition with one silver medal and four bronze medals in a commendable performance on home soil.

Esther Obenewaa delivered Ghana’s highest finish at the championships by winning the country’s only silver medal in the women’s high jump event.

Florence Agyemang also produced an impressive performance to claim bronze in the women’s 400 metres after clocking a time of 51.87 seconds to finish third.

National 800m record holder Alex Amankwah added to Ghana’s medal tally by securing bronze in the men’s 800 metres final, crossing the line in 1:46.18.

Ghana’s relay teams also contributed to the medal haul with podium finishes in the 4×100 metres events.

The women’s relay team produced a strong performance to capture bronze in the final event of the championships.

The men’s 4×100 relay team, entering the competition as defending champions, also secured bronze after finishing behind Côte d’Ivoire and Nigeria.

The performance marks a competitive outing for Team Ghana and highlights the country’s growing presence in athletics on the continental stage.
