Shatta Wale Drags Blakk Rasta to Court Over Defamation, Seeks GH₵100 Million Damages

Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has taken legal action against media personality and reggae musician Blakk Rasta, filing a defamation lawsuit that seeks GH₵100 million in damages. The suit marks the latest chapter in the long-running tension between the two outspoken public figures.

According to sources close to the case, Shatta Wale alleges that Blakk Rasta made defamatory statements about him during media commentary, statements he claims have damaged his reputation, brand value, and professional standing both locally and internationally. The musician argues that the comments were false, malicious, and calculated to portray him in a negative light.

The lawsuit stems from a video published by Black Rasta in which Shatta Wale was described as “Shatta Wale, confessed King of fraud”, a characterization the claimant insists is damaging to his reputation. Shatta Wale argues that the publication is both false and malicious, and has therefore caused him significant reputational harm.

This legal action follows years of public exchanges between Shatta Wale and Blakk Rasta, often played out on radio, social media, and interviews. Blakk Rasta, known for his blunt commentary on Ghana’s entertainment industry, has been a vocal critic of Shatta Wale’s conduct and influence, while Shatta Wale has consistently pushed back against what he describes as targeted attacks by certain media figures.

What sets this incident apart, however, is Shatta Wale’s decision to move the dispute from the court of public opinion to a court of law. As the case proceeds, legal observers will be watching closely to see how the court interprets the alleged statements and whether they meet the legal threshold for defamation. Blakk Rasta has yet to publicly respond in detail to the lawsuit, though a formal legal defense is expected.

For now, the GH₵100 million lawsuit underscores a clear message from Shatta Wale: he is prepared to defend his name, reputation, and brand by any legal means necessary.
