Joseph Paintsil opened the scoring for the LA Galaxy in their clash against Houston Dynamo FC, but the encounter ended in a 1-1 draw after Houston responded before halftime.
Paintsil gave the Galaxy a 1-0 advantage in the 30th minute with an unassisted strike. Houston, however, restored parity in the 41st minute through Ezequiel Ponce Santos, with assists coming from Jack McGlynn and defender Antônio Carlos.
The goal marked Paintsil’s third of the season, following back-to-back campaigns in which he scored 10 goals in each of his first two seasons with the club.
Santos, meanwhile, continued his impressive form, taking his tally to eight goals in 14 league appearances this season.
Former Galaxy goalkeeper Jonathan Bond produced five saves for Houston, while JT Marcinkowski made three saves for the Galaxy.
The result also ended Houston’s run of opening the season with 13 consecutive matches without a draw, setting a club record.
Major League Soccer will now pause competition for the World Cup break, with league action scheduled to resume on July 16.
