John Dramani Mahama has officially launched Ghana’s new electronic visa (e-Visa) portal in Accra, marking a major step in the country’s push to modernise immigration services through digital systems.

The new platform is designed to simplify visa applications, speed up processing times, and improve access for travellers while maintaining strict security checks and due diligence requirements.

At the launch event on Monday, May 25, President Mahama also announced visa fee waivers for all African passport holders visiting Ghana for business or tourism. The move is aimed at promoting African integration and encouraging greater travel within the continent.

The government says the e-Visa system will help reduce paperwork, improve efficiency, and strengthen Ghana’s position as a travel and business hub in the region.

Officials added that despite the digital upgrade, all applicants will still undergo full security screening in line with national security standards.
