Police in Kumasi have arrested a 48-year-old businessman for allegedly killing his girlfriend following a domestic dispute at Ayigya-Maxima.

The suspect, Francis Arthur, is accused of fatally assaulting his partner, Sally Benson, a well-known beautician, on April 14, 2026. The two had reportedly been in a relationship for more than a decade.

According to police, the deceased had gone to the suspect’s residence with a female friend after receiving information that another woman had visited him. The suspect was not home when they arrived.

Chief Inspector Samuel Agyare said Arthur later returned and was confronted by Benson, leading to a heated argument. During the altercation, he allegedly assaulted her repeatedly until she collapsed.

Police say Arthur subsequently transported her in her own vehicle to the KNUST Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Arthur appeared before the Asokore Mampong District Court, presided over by Hilda Esther Wryter, and was remanded into custody. He is expected to reappear in court on May 8, 2026.

The death of Benson, who owned Sally’s Cosmetics Studio and African’s Special Pub in the Asokwa area, has left family and friends in shock.

Her father, Gabriel Oppong, expressed deep grief and called for justice.

He said the family had been informed of the circumstances leading to her death, describing how a confrontation escalated into violence. He urged authorities to ensure that justice is served.

“I want justice. We are all in a nation governed by law, and I believe the law must take its course,” he said.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

    Police investigations are ongoing.
