Police in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region have arrested a woman, Vivian Anto, for allegedly causing serious injury to her 9-year-old daughter.

According to a police report, the incident took place on Friday, April 3, 2026, around 9:30 a.m. at Sefwi-Proso. The suspect is accused of cutting off her daughter’s right index toe with a pair of scissors after the child reportedly returned home late.

The victim, identified as Diana Boakye, was rushed to Kofikrom SDA Hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment. Medical staff confirmed that she suffered a severe injury to her right foot but is responding well to treatment.

The child’s father, Stephen Anto, later retrieved the severed toe and handed it over to the police. The body part has since been documented and preserved as evidence.

Police, led by Detective Inspector Mathias Balondon, visited the hospital to assess the victim’s condition. During their interaction, the child identified her mother as the person responsible for the act.

Authorities have issued a medical report form to aid investigations, and photographs of the injuries have been taken for evidential purposes.

Vivian Anto remains in police custody and is assisting with investigations. She is expected to be arraigned in court after sittings resume following the Easter break. Police say further updates will be provided as investigations continue.
