The Ministry of the Interior has urged the public to avoid all unnecessary movement and remain in safe locations following heavy rains and flooding that have affected several parts of the country on Monday morning.
In a public safety advisory signed by the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Ministry advised people to stay where they are until conditions improve.
According to the Ministry, those who are safely at home should remain indoors, while people already at work or in other secure locations should stay there until it is safe to travel.
The Ministry also cautioned motorists and pedestrians against attempting to drive or walk through flooded roads, bridges or waterways, warning that floodwaters can rise rapidly and pose a serious risk to life and property.
It said emergency response agencies, including the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Armed Forces, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and other relevant institutions, have been deployed to monitor the situation, assist affected persons, manage traffic and undertake rescue operations where necessary.
Residents living in flood-prone communities have been advised to move to higher ground where it is safe to do so and to report emergencies or persons in distress to the nearest security agency.
The Ministry also urged the public to remain calm and rely only on official sources for updates and emergency information.
It listed the following emergency contacts:
- Ghana Police Service – 18555 or 112
- Ghana National Fire Service – 192
- NADMO – 112
The Ministry said it will continue to monitor developments and provide further updates as the situation evolves.
