Thomas Nyarko Ampem has outlined the government’s plans to reposition Ghana’s economy for stronger global competitiveness through a broad economic transformation agenda focused on value addition, innovation, and productivity.

Speaking at the ACI World Congress 2026 on Friday, May 22, 2026, he stated that the government remains committed to fundamentally restructuring the economy to promote long-term resilience and sustainable growth.

According to him, the transformation agenda is built around a shift from extraction to value addition, informality to productivity, vulnerability to resilience, and dependence to competitiveness.

Mr. Nyarko Ampem explained that the government aims to create conditions that will enable Ghanaian businesses to compete effectively in global markets while strengthening Africa’s capacity to finance its own development.

He also emphasized the need for financial markets to evolve into platforms that drive innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable economic prosperity.

The Deputy Finance Minister noted that the government’s policy direction seeks to establish an environment where young people are empowered to build technology-driven businesses and create opportunities beyond traditional employment pathways.

He added that the broader vision includes developing a more commercially integrated and export-oriented agricultural sector, strengthening local industries to improve international competitiveness, and expanding digital financial inclusion across communities.

According to him, these measures form part of a wider strategy to position Ghana for stronger economic performance and sustainable long-term development.
