Ghana Nears Appointment of New Black Stars Head Coach

Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has indicated that the appointment of a new head coach for the Ghana national football team is close to being finalized, with the process now in its concluding stages.

Speaking on Channel One TV, the minister explained that discussions with shortlisted candidates are almost complete, with only a few engagements left before a final decision is made. He expressed confidence that the announcement will come very soon, possibly before the weekend or by Monday, April 13, 2026.

The coaching search follows the exit of Otto Addo, leaving the national team without a permanent technical leader at a crucial time. Several experienced names have been linked to the position, including Carlos Queiroz, Paulo Bento, and Fernando Santos.

With Ghana preparing for a demanding group stage at the upcoming World Cup in North America—where they are set to face Panama national football team, Croatia national football team, and England national football team—officials are keen to make a swift appointment to ensure sufficient preparation time.

The incoming coach is expected to get an early look at the squad in May, when the team will gather for international friendlies against Wales national football team and Mexico national football team. These matches will provide an important opportunity to assess players and begin shaping the squad ahead of the tournament.
