Kamo State has addressed the growing speculation surrounding Funke Akindele’s absence from the premiere of his debut cinema film, Star Lomo, insisting that there is no problem between him and the actress.
What should have been a major celebration for Nigerian skit maker and actor Akinyoola Ayoola, popularly known as Kamo State, quickly became a social-media talking point for a completely different reason. Kamo premiered his debut cinema movie, Star Lomo, in Lagos on Sunday, September 20, 2026, with several colleagues and supporters turning up for the occasion. But one familiar face was missing. Funke Akindele, the actress and filmmaker Kamo has affectionately referred to as “Iyamii”, was not at the premiere. Considering their close relationship and Funke’s previous support for Kamo’s career, her absence immediately got people talking. Some social media users began questioning whether the two entertainment personalities had fallen out. But Kamo has now stepped forward to shut down that speculation.
Kamo Says There Is No Problem Between Them
Kamo addressed the issue directly in a post on X after waking up to the discussions surrounding Funke’s absence.
His message was clear:
“I woke up to see different opinions online about Iyamii and me. Please, we’re on good terms.”
He then explained why Funke was not physically present at the premiere.
“She missed my premiere simply because she wasn’t in the country and nothing more to it, so please don’t assume otherwise.”
That statement appears to have been aimed at putting an end to the growing theories that her absence represented a disagreement between the two.
Kamo also revealed that he had already spoken with Funke about the premiere.
‘She’s Going to Support This Film’
According to Kamo, missing the premiere does not mean Funke has withdrawn her support for his first major cinema project.
He said:
“We’ve spoken about it, and she’s going to support this film.”
The actor went a step further by asking the public to leave their personal relationship alone.
“I’d appreciate it if our personal relationship isn’t speculated on. Let’s keep our focus on the film.”
That final appeal is significant because the conversation had begun moving away from Star Lomo itself and towards speculation about the relationship between mentor and protégé.
Kamo clearly wants the attention redirected to the movie.
Why Funke’s Absence Became Such a Big Deal
The speculation did not come from nowhere. Funke and Kamo have developed a visible relationship over the past few years, particularly after Kamo became closely associated with the actress and her productions. Their relationship became even more prominent around Everybody Loves Jenifa, with Funke publicly supporting Kamo and featuring him around her projects. Because of that history, fans expected to see her at the premiere of his first cinema movie. Her absence therefore became noticeable almost immediately. Some social media users questioned why Kamo had previously supported Funke’s projects while she was not physically present for his own major moment. Others began wondering whether something had changed between them. But those online reactions were based on speculation rather than evidence of a disagreement. Where Was Funke Akindele?
Reports indicate that Funke was outside Nigeria at the time of the premiere. She was reportedly in Ghana alongside singer Waje, who is part of the cast of Funke’s forthcoming movie, The Four. That gives a straightforward explanation for why she was physically absent from the Lagos event. More importantly, Kamo himself has said the absence had nothing to do with a falling-out. There is therefore currently no confirmed evidence of a rift between the two. What exists is a wave of social-media speculation followed by Kamo’s direct clarification.
Kamo Wants Fans to Focus on Star Lomo
For Kamo State, the bigger picture is his transition from skit-making into cinema. Star Lomo represents a significant step in his acting career, and the premiere brought attention to that new chapter. The controversy surrounding Funke’s absence may have temporarily overshadowed the film, but Kamo’s response appears intended to bring the conversation back to what he believes should matter most: the movie. He also announced that Star Lomo would be heading to cinemas, encouraging fans to support the project rather than spend their time speculating about his personal relationship with Funke. And perhaps that is the clearest takeaway from the entire episode. A celebrity’s absence can create a story within minutes, but an absence alone does not establish a feud.
