Tyla’s Lagos Concert Sparks Fresh Nigerian Backlash

Tyla’s upcoming Lagos concert has triggered a heated debate in Nigeria, with some calling for a boycott while others say the singer should be left out of the controversy.

Tyla is coming to Lagos, but Nigerians are already divided over whether they should welcome her. The South African superstar is scheduled to perform in Lagos as part of her A*POP World Tour, but what was supposed to be exciting news has quickly turned controversial. Some Nigerians are now calling for a boycott of the concert because of the ongoing anger surrounding alleged xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa.

    WHY ARE NIGERIANS ANGRY?

The argument is simple. Some Nigerians believe they should not spend their money supporting a South African celebrity while Nigerians are reportedly facing hostility in South Africa.Social commentator Solomon Buchi has been among those calling for Nigerians to stay away from the concert. For supporters of the boycott, this is bigger than music. They believe Nigerians should use their purchasing power to send a message that xenophobia against Nigerians will not be ignored.

BUT NOT EVERYONE SUPPORTS THE BOYCOTT

There is also strong opposition to the campaign. Some Nigerians argue that Tyla is a musician and should not be held responsible for the actions of other people. They say boycotting her concert will not solve the xenophobia problem and could unfairly punish an artist who has nothing to do with it.Others believe African musicians should be bringing the continent together rather than becoming caught up in political tensions.

    WILL TYLA RESPOND?

That is now one of the biggest questions. Some Nigerians want Tyla to use her platform to acknowledge their concerns and speak against xenophobia. Others say celebrities should not be forced to comment on every political issue involving their countries. For now, Tyla’s Lagos concert remains scheduled, but the debate surrounding it is already getting louder.

So, will Nigerians boycott Tyla’s Lagos concert?Or will fans ignore the controversy, buy their tickets and enjoy the music? Either way, Tyla’s Lagos show has become much more than just another concert.

What would you do boycott the show or attend?
