Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has paid a morale-boosting visit to Ghanaian boxer John Laryea as he intensifies preparations for his WBA World title eliminator against Argentina’s Adrian Robledo Maximiliano.

Gyan visited Laryea during a training session at the Bronx Boxing Gym on Tuesday, July 22, shortly after returning from his media and ambassadorial engagements at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The former Ghana captain expressed confidence in Laryea’s ability to deliver on the world stage, praising the unbeaten boxer for his discipline, talent and determination.

Gyan was accompanied by his elder brother, Baffour Gyan, and his manager, Samuel Anim Addo, who also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Bronx Boxing Promotions.

Popularly known as the “Expensive Boxer,” Laryea has enjoyed an impressive professional career, remaining unbeaten while capturing both the WBO Africa Featherweight and IBF Africa Featherweight titles.

His rise through the ranks has included victories over Sebastianus Natanael, Michael Tagoe, Alexander Mejia and Holy Dorgbetor, cementing his status as one of Ghana’s brightest boxing prospects.

Laryea now faces the biggest challenge of his career when he takes on Adrian Robledo Maximiliano in a WBA World title eliminator scheduled for August 15, with victory expected to move him closer to a shot at a world championship.
