The Ghana Police Service has intercepted 1,054 vehicles in the Greater Accra Region during an ongoing nationwide enforcement exercise targeting the unauthorised use of sirens, horns, strobe lights, beacon lights and illegal vehicle modifications.

The operation forms part of efforts to improve road safety and ensure strict compliance with the Road Traffic Regulations governing the use of vehicles on Ghana’s roads.

As part of the exercise, police officers removed and seized unauthorised sirens, beacon lights, strobe lights and other illegal modifications found on several vehicles.

The operation targets motorists who install or use equipment reserved for authorised emergency and security vehicles without lawful approval.

The Police said motorists whose vehicles were found to be in breach of the regulations were educated on the relevant traffic laws and advised to comply with the legal requirements.

The Service noted that the enforcement exercise is aimed at promoting discipline on the roads, improving public safety and ensuring that only authorised vehicles use emergency warning devices.

Police urged motorists to comply with the Road Traffic Regulations and warned that the nationwide operation will continue to identify and sanction offenders.
