Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, has been rearrested at Kotoka International Airport over allegations that he attempted to access funds in a frozen Republic Bank account while standing trial for financial crimes.

The arrest was announced by Deputy Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, in a statement on Sunday, July 5.

Arrest follows alleged attempt to access frozen account

According to Dr Srem-Sai, Mr Aludiba had obtained permission from the High Court to travel briefly to the United Kingdom.

However, he was arrested at the airport after allegedly attempting to use false means to empty a frozen Republic Bank account on Thursday, July 2, 2026.

The Deputy Attorney-General said the Attorney-General’s Office will appear before the High Court on Monday, July 6, to seek a review of the court order that allowed Mr Aludiba to travel outside the country.

    Facing multiple financial crime charges

Mr. Aludiba, who headed NAFCO between 2017 and 2025, is currently standing trial over allegations of stealing and causing financial loss to the state involving tens of millions of Ghana cedis.

In May 2026, he and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, were re-arraigned on 20 charges, including stealing, defrauding by false pretences, money laundering and abuse of public office.

The revised charges followed the withdrawal and restructuring of an earlier 24-count charge sheet by the Attorney-General.

The couple was granted a combined bail of GH¢63.5 million, subject to several conditions, including the surrender of their passports to the court and regular reporting to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

    Prosecution allegations

Prosecutors allege that Mr. Aludiba diverted more than GH¢50 million belonging to NAFCO through companies linked to himself and his wife, including Sawtina Enterprise, Aludiba Enterprise, Energy Partners Limited and Fa-Hausa Ventures.

Some of the accounts allegedly used in the transactions are held at Republic Bank’s Labone branch.

The High Court has scheduled the substantive trial to continue on July 15, 2026.

Authorities have not disclosed the specific method Mr. Aludiba allegedly used in the attempt to access the frozen account, and his current custody status has not yet been officially confirmed.

    The case remains under investigation.
