A two-and-a-half-year-old boy who went missing at Assin Awiafitaamu near Ketukrom in the Assin North District of the Central Region has been found dead after a five-day search.
The child, identified as Nana Yaw, disappeared on May 13 while staying at home with his siblings. His grandmother had gone to the farm at the time.
His disappearance triggered an intensive search involving family members, residents, and community volunteers.
Community members also used local information centres in nearby areas to spread alerts and seek help in locating the child.
Despite several days of searching, the toddler could not be found. The case was later reported to the police on May 15 by his grandfather, Godwin Tettey Amanor.
The search ended in tragedy on May 17 at about 4:39 p.m. when hunters from Assin Kushea discovered the child’s body in a bush while on a hunting expedition.
Reports indicate that hunting dogs led the group to the exact location where the body was found.
The body was found near a settlement belonging to a man identified as Papa Magye.
Residents were alerted immediately, and the family was informed before the matter was officially reported to the police.
The community has since been thrown into mourning following the heartbreaking discovery.
The cause of death is not yet known. Police have begun investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
