Kuami Eugene, “I got tired of winning the best highlife artiste”

Highlife and Afrobeats artist Kuami Eugene has disclosed that he once got tired of continuously winning the Best Highlife Artiste at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA). He was speaking in an interview where he shared that boredom came about two years ago because he did not want to be known as a highlife artist alone.

Often referred to as the RockStar, he has received the coveted Highlife Artiste of the Year award five times, setting a record for the most victories in this category.

He went on to say that while he concentrates on creating quality music, he wanted other musicians to win in the category. “I was tired two years ago because I wanted someone to win something. I don’t want to be known for just high life. I want to be known for producing good music.” He added

When asked about his thoughts on highlife becoming Afrobeats, a claim by colleague artist Kelvin Boy, Kuami Eugene noted otherwise, saying it is due to “the way they do it.”
