Staff at the Fidelity Bank branch at Oyarifa in Accra have praised an unemployed graduate who returned GH¢4,000 he found at an ATM.

Emmanuel Appiah Boateng discovered the cash on April 25 while trying to withdraw money using his wife’s card. He had been unemployed for nine months and needed funds for family expenses, but instead found the money left in the ATM tray.

Faced with a difficult choice, he decided to report the incident rather than keep the cash. He contacted the bank’s helpline and followed instructions on how to handle the situation.

Two days later, on April 27, he returned the full amount to the bank after keeping it safe over the weekend.

Emmanuel Appiah Boateng, a father of four, holds a master’s degree in cybersecurity, a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, and a certification in project management. He said he chose to act with honesty despite his financial challenges.

The branch manager commended his actions, describing them as rare and admirable, especially at a time when many households face rising living costs.

Mr Boateng later shared the experience with members of his church, Faith Life Family Assemblies of God, in Oyarifa.
