MOFA launches internal audit awareness month

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) has unveiled plans for its 2026 Internal Audit Awareness Month, an initiative aimed at promoting transparency, accountability, and trust within Ghana’s agricultural sector.

The week-long programme will run from May 11 to May 16, 2026, under the theme “Cultivating Integrity, Harvesting Trust: Internal Audit as the Backbone of Sustainable Agriculture.” It is being organised by the Ministry’s Internal Audit Unit.

According to MOFA, the initiative is designed to highlight the importance of internal auditing in protecting public funds, improving operational efficiency, and supporting national food security efforts.

The event will officially open on May 11, with Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture John Dumelo expected to lead the ceremony. The launch will include exhibitions and the distribution of educational materials to raise awareness about audit practices.

A range of activities has been scheduled for the week, including seminars, risk management training sessions, and an “Ask the Auditor” forum. These engagements are intended to educate stakeholders on how effective audit systems can help prevent fraud, reduce waste, and improve the implementation of agricultural programmes.

MOFA also plans to engage farmer groups, development partners, and its various departments through stakeholder forums that will encourage collaboration and reinforce accountability across the sector.

The programme will conclude with an awards and thanksgiving ceremony to honour outstanding audit professionals. Awards will include categories such as Auditor of the Year and Most Innovative Recommendation.

In addition to the main events, the Ministry has outlined several activities throughout the month, including a green walk, poster competitions, a documentary premiere, and a corporate social responsibility initiative aimed at supporting farming communities.

MOFA emphasised that strong internal auditing is essential to ensuring that agricultural policies achieve their intended impact, noting that effective auditing is key to a productive and sustainable agricultural system.

The programme will take place at the Ministry’s headquarters in Accra, with selected sessions available online. It is open to staff, farmers, students, and the general public, with organisers encouraging broad participation to help advance integrity and accountability in the sector.
