The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), working with the National Security, has arrested five individuals suspected of manufacturing and distributing fake driver and vehicle (DV) plates across Ghana.

The suspects were apprehended in operations conducted at Lapaz, Narhman, Tarkwa, and Kumasi. They have been arraigned and are currently on remand, with a scheduled court reappearance on March 17, 2026. Authorities say two additional suspects identified through intelligence remain at large.

Investigators revealed that many of the counterfeit DV plates are circulated along with fake motor insurance documents, making them appear legitimate.

The DVLA reminded the public that the use of DV plates is strictly regulated under Regulations 23 of LI 2180, and anyone who violates these provisions is breaking the law.

The joint operation underscores the authorities’ commitment to cracking down on fraudulent activities in the transport sector.
