The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into a violent incident that disrupted the District Schools Athletics Games in Agona Swedru in the Central region on February 19. The purpose of the gathering was to honour kids’ athletic abilities, but it apparently turned chaotic after a fight broke out between students from two different schools.

According to eyewitnesses, tensions flared between students of Obrachire Senior High Technical School and the Swedru School of Business (SWESBUS), leading to a physical altercation. In the course of the disturbance, a student from Obrachire was allegedly attacked by a group believed to be from SWESBUS.

Before bystanders intervened to bring the sitAuthorities say investigations are ongoing, and further updates will be provided as efforts continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident. Situation under control, the victim was allegedly hit with rods and pelted with stones. Videos circulating on social media show scenes of confusion, with the injured student surrounded by a crowd as the incident unfolded. He was later transported to a health facility, where he is currently receiving treatment.

In addition to denouncing the violence, police have promised the public that those responsible will be found and dealt with legally.
