Wontumi camp calls for respectful engagement in NPP Chairmanship contest

The campaign team of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has denounced what it describes as a surge of personal attacks and insults circulating on social media. In a statement issued on May 18, 2026, the team called on supporters and party members to uphold civility as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) intensifies its internal campaign activities.

According to the statement, the team had observed videos on TikTok allegedly posted by a user identified as “Boya,” which targeted members of its campaign management with offensive remarks.

“The attention of Team Wontumi has been drawn to a series of unfortunate videos circulating on TikTok by a lady known as ‘Boya,’ in which several respected members of our campaign management team have been subjected to unwarranted insults and personal attacks,” the statement read.

The campaign suggested that the online activities of the individual made her political preference in the ongoing chairmanship race apparent.

Despite the incident, Team Wontumi reaffirmed its commitment to a campaign focused on ideas, competence, vision, and party cohesion rather than hostility.

“It is still early days in this internal campaign season, and Team Wontumi remains firmly committed to a campaign based on ideas, vision, competence and party unity, not insults, intimidation or needless character assassination,” the statement emphasized.

The team urged party supporters and the wider public to disregard the videos and resist attempts to sow division within the party’s democratic processes. It also appealed to rival campaign groups to encourage discipline among their supporters, warning that internal hostility could undermine unity ahead of future electoral contests.

“We cannot afford to destroy one another today and expect to build a united front tomorrow,” the statement cautioned.

Reaffirming its inclusive approach, Team Wontumi described itself as a movement drawing support from various factions across the party, reflecting a spirit of reconciliation and unity. The campaign said it remains focused on engaging delegates respectfully and democratically as Chairman Wontumi seeks to become the NPP’s national chairman.

Bernard Antwi Boasiako currently serves as Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP and is vying for leadership at the national level.
