A pastor has been arrested in connection with an alleged attempt to bury a five-month-old baby alive at Abofrem in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.

The suspect, identified as Richmond Akwasi Frimpong, the Head Pastor of Anointed Grace Prayer Ministry at Kuffour Camp, was apprehended following the disturbing incident that has left residents of the community in shock.

Eyewitnesses say the pastor and an accomplice were spotted at a refuse dump around 11 p.m. acting suspiciously while handling the infant.

According to one eyewitness, Winfred Agbah, he intervened after noticing unusual activity at the scene and soon discovered that the baby was still alive and appeared to be moments away from being buried.

He immediately raised an alarm, prompting swift intervention from nearby residents, which helped prevent what could have been a fatal outcome.

The Chief Linguist of Abofrem, Nana Yaw Badu, confirmed that the suspect had earlier informed him that the child was dead, a claim that led to initial burial discussions. However, he later indicated that he was unaware the baby was still alive at the time.

The infant girl has since been rescued and is currently receiving medical attention at a government hospital.

The Ghana Police Service has taken the pastor and his accomplice into custody, and both are assisting with ongoing investigations.
