On Monday, October 6, 2025, the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) Task Force conducted a significant operation targeting the notorious “Gangway” enclave in Aboso, located within the Prestea-Huni Valley District of the Western Region. This area has been a known hotspot for illegal mining activities, drug abuse, and other criminal behaviors.

During the operation, the Task Force dismantled numerous makeshift structures that served as hideouts and drug bases. They also seized various pieces of mining equipment used in illegal operations. Several individuals involved in illegal mining, gambling, drug use, and narcotics trading surrendered to the authorities. Additionally, eleven parcels of Indian hemp and other hard drugs were confiscated.

This operation follows a similar exercise in June 2025, during which NAIMOS warned illegal miners and criminal gangs to vacate the area. Despite these warnings, illegal activities persisted, prompting the recent intervention.

The Task Force also extended its operations to the Dadwen-Domping areas in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality, where they seized 15 water-pumping machines, a generator, and destroyed three changfangs and other mining equipment.

The operation is part of ongoing efforts by the government to combat illegal mining and its associated environmental and social issues in the country.
