The Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has described Ghana’s latest Guinness World Record achievement as a significant milestone for the nation’s creative arts sector and a strong testament to the innovation, resilience, and global competitiveness of Ghanaian artists.

Upon receiving the official Guinness World Record from bead artist Juliana Gharbin, recognized for creating the largest beaded sculpture (bag), the minister hailed the project for blending Ghanaian symbolism with daring modern artistic vision. She noted that such accomplishments deepen Ghana’s cultural diplomacy and significantly enhance the country’s visibility on the international stage.

By surpassing the six-meter benchmark set by Guinness World Records for combined dimensions, Gharbin and her team gained international praise. The historic bag, which is detailed with the famous Adinkra symbols like Nkyinkyim and Mpuannum and infused with Ghana’s national colours, is a testament to the values of perseverance, advancement, devotion, and perfection that have shaped the country’s artistic heritage.

Explaining the vision behind the ambitious project, Gharbin revealed that her team deliberately aimed to etch Ghanaian art into global history by creating a beaded bag sculpture category that had never before been claimed.

Guinness World Records validated the historic feat on December 8, 2025, with the official certificate issued on January 15, 2026. The sculpture’s astonishing scale speaks volumes—its width is said to be twice that of a lotto kiosk, and its immense weight requires specialized logistics to move. The Ministry is expected to engage the team further, leveraging the global recognition to strengthen Ghana’s tourism drive and cultural promotion strategy.

Joining the sector minister at the official reception were Dr. Richardson Fio, Special Assistant to the Minister, and Divine Kwame Owusu Ansah, Director for Culture and Creative Arts.

Gharbin noted that the project was a deliberate move to spotlight Ghanaian art globally by establishing a new Guinness World Records category for a beaded bag sculpture. The achievement was confirmed on December 8, 2025, with certification granted on January 15, 2026. Measuring twice the width of a lotto kiosk and requiring heavy-duty logistics for transport, the sculpture’s scale reflects the enormity of the feat. The Ministry plans to collaborate further with the team to utilize the milestone in advancing Ghana’s tourism and cultural agenda.

Dr. Richardson Fio and Divine Kwame Owusu Ansah were present to support the minister during the official reception.
