The Ghana national football team has appointed veteran Portuguese tactician Carlos Queiroz as head coach ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following a decision by the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association in collaboration with key stakeholders.

The appointment marks a strategic move aimed at strengthening Ghana’s technical leadership ahead of the global tournament, which will be hosted in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Queiroz is expected to take immediate charge of preparations as the team builds toward the competition scheduled to begin on June 11, 2026.

Queiroz brings a wealth of international experience and a strong World Cup pedigree. Over the course of his career, he has led multiple national teams at the tournament level, including South Africa, which he guided toward qualification for the 2002 FIFA World Cup, Portugal, which reached the knockout stage in 2010, and Iran, which he managed in both the 2014 and 2018 editions of the competition.

Beyond his World Cup experience, he has held coaching roles across several footballing nations, including Egypt, Oman, Japan, and Qatar, earning a reputation as a highly experienced international manager with a tactical and disciplined approach to team building.

Under his leadership, Ghana will be targeting a competitive showing in Group play, with fixtures set against Panama in Toronto on June 17, 2026, followed by high-profile clashes against England and Croatia in the remaining group-stage matches.

The appointment signals Ghana’s intent to leverage experience and tactical expertise as it seeks to make a strong impact on the global stage.
