Benjamin Nketsiah has once again made headlines after receiving a prestigious academic honor from Michigan State University. He is known in Ghana for his role in leading Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School to victory in the 2020 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ). Nketsiah’s latest achievement highlights his continued academic excellence on the global stage.

His journey from a celebrated high school quiz champion to an award-winning university researcher reflects the growing impact of Ghanaian students in international academic spaces.

Benjamin Nketsiah earned the Honours Giving Back Award, which recognizes students who combine academic excellence with meaningful social impact.

The award was granted in recognition of his innovative project titled “She’s Strong: Using Digital AI to Transform Triple-Negative Cancer Detection and Care for West African Women.”

This project focuses on leveraging artificial intelligence and digital tools to improve early detection and treatment of triple-negative breast cancer. This is a condition that disproportionately affects women of West African descent.

Nketsiah’s work stands out not just for its technical sophistication, but for its purpose-driven approach. His initiative aims to bridge healthcare gaps in West Africa by providing accessible digital solutions. This includes risk assessment tools and patient support systems.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the project, Nketsiah emphasized his desire to give back to his roots, noting that the initiative is his way of contributing to improving healthcare outcomes in the region.

At Michigan State University, Nketsiah has been actively involved in cutting-edge research. In particular, areas related to cancer genetics and molecular biology. His academic focus aligns closely with real-world challenges, demonstrating how student-led research can drive impactful change.

His recognition underscores the importance of interdisciplinary learning. This is where science, technology, and social responsibility intersect to create solutions for global health issues.

Nketsiah’s achievement has sparked pride across Ghana, especially among alumni of PRESEC and followers of the NSMQ competition. His success story serves as inspiration for young students, showing that excellence in education can open doors to global opportunities and meaningful contributions to society.

At a time when Ghana continues to invest in STEM education, stories like Nketsiah’s highlight the potential of the country’s youth to lead innovation on the world stage.

Benjamin Nketsiah’s Michigan State award is more than just a personal milestone, it represents the power of education, innovation, and a commitment to societal impact. As he continues his academic journey, his work has the potential to influence healthcare systems and improve lives far beyond the classroom.
