A fatal road accident at Gomoa Ankamu, popularly known as Apam Junction in Ghana’s Central Region, has claimed one life, according to the Ghana National Fire Service.

The incident occurred on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at about 6:40 p.m., after the Ghana National Fire Service received a distress call reporting a collision.

Firefighters who arrived at the scene found that the crash involved a Kia Picanto (GW 8314-21) and a Hyundai Rhino (GJ 823-21). One occupant of the Kia Picanto was trapped in the wreckage and had to be rescued by emergency personnel.

The victim was transported by the National Ambulance Service Ghana to St. Luke Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

An eyewitness account indicated that both vehicles were traveling in opposite directions at the time of the crash. The Hyundai Rhino, heading toward Winneba, reportedly attempted to overtake another vehicle at high speed but lost control and collided head-on with the Kia Picanto, which was enroute to Cape Coast.

Both vehicles sustained severe damage in the impact.

Authorities have yet to release the identity of the deceased as investigations into the accident continue.
