“I’m Not Thinking About Retirement” – Andre Ayew

Ghana captain Andre Ayew says retirement is far from his thoughts as he continues his playing career in Europe.

The 36-year-old attacker recently resumed club action after sealing a move to Dutch side NAC Breda. Ayew joined the Eredivisie outfit on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Le Havre at the end of last season. He signed a short-term deal that will keep him at the club until the conclusion of the current campaign.

On the international stage, the experienced forward has not featured for Ghana since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which was staged in the Ivory Coast. Despite his absence from recent Black Stars assignments, Ayew insists he is not contemplating stepping away from the game.

In an interview with ESPN, the most-capped player in Black Stars history stressed that he remains physically strong and motivated to continue competing at the highest level.

“I never thought about it (retirement) because my body is good, I feel good. I live my life day to day, so I prepare myself every time to have a better tomorrow on the field and off the field,” he said.

“I don’t think about that. When the moment comes, your body will tell you,” he added.

Since completing his switch to NAC Breda, Ayew has made six league appearances, including one start, as he gradually works his way back to full match fitness.
